GALKOT: JUNE 18 – As many as 41 families have been displaced in Baglung district due to continuous rains. As many as 41 families have been forced to flee their homes due to heavy rains since last Monday. According to the District Police Office, most of the houses were completely damaged and some were partially damaged.
According to Iqbal Hawari, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Baglung, seven houses in the district are at high risk due to the floods and landslides and could be displaced at any time.
Most of the rural roads connected to the district headquarters have been closed due to floods and landslides after continuous rains. The houses of Lila Bahadur BK, Mithe BK and Tikaram BK of Bhirkuna in Ward No. 5 have been damaged due to a landslide in Tarakhola village of the district.
According to the District Police Office, Baglung, a landslide in Baglung Municipality-7 has destroyed a house and put another house at high risk. Due to the landslide, the house of local Rabilal Gautam has been destroyed and the buffalo in the cowshed has been buried. The house of Mahendra Gautam of the same place has been displaced due to high risk.
Similarly, the house of Nandalal Poudel in Baglung Municipality-4 has collapsed due to rains and the two-storey house of Pradip Sherchan in the same place is at high risk due to landslide. Maya GC’s one-storey mud-brick house was displaced due to high risk of landslide, said Hawari, an information officer at the District Police Office.
Parbati Poudel, a resident of Farsedanda in Baglung Municipality-13, has been displaced due to a landslide near her house. According to Hawari, a two-storey mud-roofed house made of stone and mud was displaced due to landslide at the back of Chandrakala Chhetri’s house at Chamuwa in Galkot Municipality-4.
