Driver dies in tipper accident

KATHMANDU: JUNE 17 – One person has died in a tipper accident at the 900 MW Arun III Hydropower Project under construction in Sankhuwasabha. The deceased has been identified as Deepesh Bhattarai, 22, of Dhankuta Municipality, according to Inspector Kavin Rai.

While unloading the stone at Chichila-3 Pukhuwa, the power house of Arun III Project, at around 10:00 pm on Wednesday, the tipper fell uncontrollably into the Arun River about 300 meters. The driver Bhattarai died on the spot after falling from the cliff, said Information Officer Rai.

Similarly, 20-year-old Nawaraj Shrestha of Kavrepalanchok Bhakunde Besi was seriously injured in the accident. Co-driver Shrestha sustained a head injury and his left arm was broken, said Information Officer Rai. The critically injured Shrestha has been shifted to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan for further treatment. -RSS
