Australia will only vaccinate people over 60 years of age
Two of the people who received the AstraZeneca vaccine are thought to have died of a blood clot in their brain.
CANBERRA: JUNE 17 – The Australian government has said that the AstraZeneca vaccine against COVID-19 should only be given to people over the age of 60. Earlier, the vaccine was given to people above 50 years of age.
A 52-year-old woman who was vaccinated with AstraZeneca last week died of a blood clot in her brain after that the government has increased the age.
Health Minister Greg Hunt said Thursday’s announcement was not based on any scientific facts, but that the government wanted to exercise caution.
Australia has recommended a government-approved Pfizer vaccine for people between the ages of 50 and 59.

A 48-year-old woman who first received the AstraZeneca vaccine died in April. Following the woman’s death, the government recommended that only people over the age of 50 be vaccinated against AstraZeneca.
The government had requested that a second dose of the vaccine be given only to those who had not been shown to have a blood clot in their brain.
The Australian government plans to introduce moderna vaccines to its citizens soon, and has announced that all adults will be vaccinated with at least one dose by the end of this year. -RSS
