PM directs immediate relief to flood-hit areas
KATHMANDU: JUNE 17 – Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has instructed the concerned bodies to work in a coordinated manner to prevent further loss of life and property due to floods and landslides caused by incessant rains.
Addressing the sixth meeting of the National Council for National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management on Wednesday, Prime Minister Oli also directed the concerned bodies to provide food, cloth, medicine and water to the affected areas immediately. He said that the government was preparing for the disaster by assessing the possible risks and was working accordingly.
In a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, the Prime Minister also directed to pay special attention to the rescue and relief work for the disabled, senior citizens, children and women. He said that the risk of COVID-19 infection should be taken into consideration while moving a large number of people to safer places.
He also stressed on the use of various water-powered means of rescue as well as locally made means for rescue. Prime Minister Oli was of the view that monitoring should be made effective to prevent irregularities in relief distribution. He also instructed the joint border team to immediately take necessary action in the areas where there is a possibility of flooding in the Terai and to stop digging roads or installing dozers at new places in the hilly areas.
