Nepal in the third phase of Asia Cup selection
Only the bottom four teams will now have to play in the playoffs.
KATHMANDU: JUNE 16 – Nepal has entered the third round of the Asia Cup. With the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) modifying the selection process, Nepal has made it to the third round of the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
According to the AFC, China, the host of the Asian Cup, the host of the World Cup and the previous winner of the Asian Cup, Qatar, also made it to the third round after finishing fourth in the group. Now, the bottom three teams and the third and fourth place finishers 8-8 made it to the third round of the Asian Cup qualifiers. The top three teams that finished fifth in the AFC also made it to the third round.
Only the bottom four teams will now have to play in the playoffs. Now Indonesia, Cambodia, Chinese Taipei and Guam will play in the playoffs. The two winning teams in the playoffs will advance to the third round of the Asian Cup qualifiers. Nepal finished fourth in the World Cup and Asia Cup qualifiers.
