KATHMANDU: JUNE 16 – The flood in Melamchi river of Sindhupalchowk has caused great damage in the coastal area. The incessant rains have caused severe damage to many settlements including Melamchi Bazar.
According to the police, the floods have damaged Melamchi Drinking Water Dam, Timbu Bazar, Chanaute Bazar, Talamarang Bazar, Melamchi Bazar. Similarly, Nakote Pool, Timbu Pool, Phatte Pool, Melamchi Pool, Bahunepati Pool and Dhadkhola Pool have been flooded, said DSP Prakash Sapkota of District Police Office, Sindhupalchowk.
Suspension bridges have also flown in some places but no exact details have been received. DSP Sapkota said, “Drinking water and electricity services have been disrupted due to the flooding of bridges and roads in various places.”
According to DSP Sapkota, there are preliminary information that 4-5 people have lost contact. But it is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. “We have been mobilizing at the scene since the morning,” he said.
He said that Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police have been mobilized for the rescue operation. After the floods, the locals have taken shelter in Shera, Nagarpalika Prangan and Indrawati Campus.
