Urge to make vaccination campaign effective
KATHMANDU: JUNE 15 – The organization department of the Nepali Congress has urged the government to make the Corona vaccination campaign effective. In a statement issued on Monday evening, Gopalman Shrestha, chief of the organization department and former deputy prime minister, said that the second phase of Corona infection had spread across the country and the vaccination campaign should be made effective.
“Thirteen million senior citizens are yet to be vaccinated in the second phase. The government has not been able to establish a reliable basis for providing the second phase of vaccinations in time as per the standards of the World Health Organization,” he said. He said that the government had used the lockdown as an important achievement for the prevention and control of the Corona epidemic to prolong its rule.
Leader Shrestha said that all the political parties have the responsibility to protect the livelihood of the Nepali people while fighting the crisis of COVID-19. He said that the government had dissolved the parliament despite the opportunity to form a new government under the leadership of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba to protect the constitution and democracy.
Shrestha, who is also the former vice-president of the party, clarified that the 14th general convention of the party will be held from September 1 to September 4 as per the party’s constitution. A meeting of the Central Working Committee of the Nepali Congress is being held on Thursday, June 17 to finalize the proposed date of the General Convention. The organization department has urged all to start preparations for the general convention as there is an obligation to hold the convention in August. Leader Shrestha also accused the current caretaker government of acting irresponsibly. -RSS
