78 inmates added to prohibitory order, most rape cases
CHITWAN: JUNE 15 – A total of 78 inmates have been added to the District Jail Office, Chitwan during the prohibitory order. According to office chief Kamal Prasad Kafle, 14 have been sent from Nawalpur District Court, 63 from Chitwan District Court and one from Makwanpur for sentencing and trial.
He informed that the number of prisoners was increased during the prohibitory order imposed by the local administration on April 30 due to the Corona epidemic. According to him, there are 23 drug addicts, 14 rape victims, 12 vehicle accident cases and seven theft cases in Chitwan. Similarly, there are four for smuggling, three for timber smuggling, two for killing industry, indecent behavior, two for tampering with government documents and duty, one for selling live meat and one for rhino smuggling.
Similarly, most of the cases from Nawalpur District Court are related to drug cases. There are four in drug cases, three in rape cases, two in vehicle deaths and two in polygamy. According to Kafle, there are one case each for banking malpractice, corruption and robbery.
A person from Makwanpur has been sent to Chitwan Jail Office on drug charges. During the same period, 62 people have been released from the prison office. On the occasion of the Republic Day, 16 others were pardoned by the President on May 29 and others were released after paying their dues and the case was decided by the court.
Prisoners who come to the Jail at this time are kept in quarantine for 15 days inside the Jail. He said that a separate room has been arranged inside for the quarantine. At present, there are 675 inmates in the Chitwan prison office. There are 52 prisoners in the 25-capacity women’s prison and 623 inmates in the 255-capacity men’s prison. There are three dependent girls in the jail.
