Baburam’s meeting with Manange: No one is born a criminal
KATHMANDU: JUNE 13 – Janata Samajwadi Party Federal Council President Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that no person is born a criminal. Bhattarai, who is also a former prime minister, admitted that he had met Rajiv Gurung (Deepak Manange).
Baburam also requested not to be prejudiced against Manange becoming a minister. “I have a well-thought-out and empirical belief that no human being is born a criminal,” he said on social networking site Facebook. Also, in a society with class / ethnic / gender discrimination, the dominant stream of the state / society can easily turn the oppressed / excluded stream into ‘criminals’. So crime / criminal is a relative concept. ‘
Stating that he was in favor of reforming prisons and jails, he said that most of the people who should be in jails in Nepal are in power or those who are at home and those who should be open are in jail. “With that in mind, when I was PM, I formed a high-level commission for prison reform under the then MP Devi Khadka, whose report has yet to be implemented,” he said.
Saying that we have all heard of Valmiki, Dr. Bhattarai said, “If Deepak Manange wants a new life and a new role, why deprive him?” Why bias? ‘
