KATHMANDU: JUNE 11 – The second biggest football tournament after the World Cup, the Euro Cup, is starting from midnight on Friday. The 16th edition of the one-month Euro Cup will be held in 11 cities in 11 European countries. Although it was supposed to be from June 12 to July 12, 2020, but is was stopped due to COVID-19 and now it is about to start.
The opening match of the tournament will be played on Friday night in Rome, Italy in which the home team will play against Turkey. The game will start at 12:45 midnight Nepali time.
Due to the Corona epidemic, only a small number of spectators will be allowed in the game, according to UEFA. This time, 24 teams are participating in the competition, 19 teams have played the previous edition and five countries are new.
Video Assistant Referee (VAR) is being used in Euro Cup from this time.
Due to the Corona epidemic, there will be 23 alternate players in each team with 12 alternate players in each game except 11 playing. Similarly, 5 players can be changed three times in regular time.
Even if the game goes overtime, one more player will have to change.
The winner of the competition will receive a prize of 10 million euros. The runner-up will receive 7 million and the semi-finalists will receive 5 million euros.
Similarly, the country that reaches the quarterfinals will get 3.26 million euros and the country that reaches the last 16 will get 2 million euros.
The winner of the group stage will get Rs 1.5 million. Both teams will share the game equally. Similarly, the team selected in the Euro Cup will get 9.25 million Euros.
