Dozens killed in Pakistan train crash
MULTAN: JUNE 7 – At least 30 passengers were killed when two express trains collided in southern Pakistan on Monday morning. According to local officials, rescue workers and local villagers have pulled out the bodies of the injured and the dead trapped in the train carriages.
It is said that 15 to 20 passengers are still trapped inside the Millat Express. Umar Tufail, the police chief of Ghotki district in Sindh province, said people inside the box were heard screaming for help, adding that efforts were being made to remove the wreckage with the help of a large machine.
As the Millat Express train derailed, it was hit by the Sir Syed Express train, said Usman Abdullah, deputy commissioner of Ghotki.
He said an investigation had been launched into how the Millat train derailed. Abdullah said at least 30 people had been killed, according to the latest figures. According to railway officials, there were about eleven hundred passengers on both the trains. Officials say the death toll could rise as some of the injured passengers are in critical condition. -AP
