KABUL: JUNE 6 – At least 11 civilians, including children, were killed when their vehicle set off a landmine in northern Afghanistan, local government officials said on Sunday, accusing Taliban insurgents for planting the mines.

Badghis provincial governor Husamudim Shams said the minivan fell off the road due to a powerful explosion. He said rescuers had arrived at the scene.

No one has claimed responsibility for the blast, but the provincial government has accused the Taliban of planting landmines targeting security forces. The Taliban did not immediately respond to a request for comment. -AP
