Vandalism at B.P. Koirala Institute, locked in office of office-bearers

DHARAN: JUNE 30 – The movement of the B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences is becoming more intense. The agitating parties, who have been on a relay fast till Tuesday, have locked the office of the office-bearers since Wednesday.

The Joint Struggle Committee has demanded the resignation of all the four office-bearers.

The latest developments at the B.P. academy have left the academy in disarray. Accusations have been raised from the grassroots level that only the branches of the establishment have been demolished and the officials have not been serious in solving the problem.

Doctors, students, and employees of the academy have been agitating for 15 days demanding transparency and good governance of the B.P. academy.

It was agreed to hold talks with the agitating party on Tuesday. The agitation has intensified after Gyanendra Giri came back after consuming alcohol. The agitating parties have locked the offices of four office bearers including the Vice-Chancellor on Wednesday morning.

The Joint Struggle Committee has immediately raised the issue of resignation and exit of the office bearer. They have demanded that a high-level negotiating team be formed on the initiative of the Prime Minister.

Dr. SP Rimal, General Secretary of the agitating Faculty Welfare Society, said that an environment should be created in which only individuals can be selected on the basis of the recommendations of the group by forming a group of specialized and experts.

The Joint Struggle Committee has given an ultimatum of one week and warned to resign en masse and besiege the Prime Minister’s Office if the demands are not addressed.

Surround the Vice Chancellor’s office till night
Vice-Chancellor of the Foundation Dr. Gyanendra Giri had called the struggle committee for talks on Tuesday. Vice-Chancellor Giri, who was in talks with other officials, had broken up the talks saying that he had consumed alcohol. Despite the struggle committee’s demand for a medical examination of Vice-Chancellor Giri, police intervened and took him to Biratnagar at night, Rimal said.

The agitating party had surrounded the Vice Chancellor’s office till around 9 pm. Giri, who has been detained since 3 pm, was released by the police at around 9 pm, said an agitating doctor.
