Spain reached quaterfinals by defeating Croatia
KATHMANDU: JUNE 29 – Spain has entered the quarterfinals of the Euro Cup. Spain reached the quarterfinals by defeating Croatia 5-3 in the knockout stage match on Monday night.
The match was decided in extra time after the scheduled 90 minutes of play ended in a 3-3 draw. Spain scored two goals in extra time. Álvaro Morata scored in the 100th minute and Mikel Oyarzabal in the 103rd minute.
Earlier for Spain, Pablo Sarabia equalized Spain in the 38th minute. César Azpilicueta scored in the 57th minute to give Spain a 2-1 lead and Ferran Torres scored the third goal for Spain in the 76th minute.
In the 20th minute of the game, Pedri of Spain could not handle the back pass given by his goalkeeper and a suicide goal was scored and Croatia took the lead. After a 3-1 deficit, Mislav Oršić opened the scoring for Croatia in the 85th minute and Mario Pašalić equalized in the 92nd minute.
Spain will now play Switzerland in the quarterfinals. So far, Italy, Denmark, Czech Republic, Belgium and Switzerland have reached the quarterfinals.
