Dispute related to active membership will be resolved at the meeting of Congress office bearers
KATHMANDU: JUNE 27 – Nepali Congress office-bearers meeting is being held. The meeting will be held at the party office on Sunday (today) at 2 pm. The meeting is preparing to hand over the responsibility to the office bearers as the active membership investigation committee could not formulate the criteria. An official meeting is being held today with the members of the investigation committee to discuss the matter.
The Nepali Congress (NC) has already approved the schedule for holding the 14th General Convention in Kathmandu from September 1 to 4. In addition, there is a constitutional hurdle for Congress to hold a general convention. With two months left for the General Convention, the active membership dispute is not over. According to spokesperson Bishwaprakash Sharma, today’s meeting was convened to resolve the active membership dispute.
An active membership investigation committee led by leader Ramesh Lekhak is investigating the complaint. Today’s meeting will focus on expediting active membership. The committee has been given till July 4 to finalize its membership. However, the committee has not been able to work on the complaint against the new member as it has not been able to formulate criteria.
The Congress has 470,000 active members. After the decision to increase the membership to 100 percent in the 14th General Convention, the active membership in Congress is estimated to reach one million.
