The bridge connecting the far west and Lumbini state was floated
DHANGADHI: JUNE 27 – The Satti Bridge, which borders Tikapur in Kailali and Rajapur Municipality in Bardiya, has been floated due to the rising water level in Karnali. Built under the Postal Highway, the bridge connects the Far West and Lumbini.
Lokendra Chand, Deputy Inspector in-charge of the Area Police Office, Satti, informed that the bridge was floated after the river started cutting the eastern side. He said that the transport on the bridge was stopped after the bridge collapsed. The river had been cutting through the eastern part of the bridge every year since the bridge was built. After the construction of this bridge, a transport service was operated in the southern region of the Kailali and Bardiya districts.
The Rasuwa Construction Company had completed the construction of the bridge five years ago, almost nine months ahead of schedule. The construction company has been carrying out maintenance for five years but it has not been able to do so since last year. When the flooded part cannot be repaired transport was blocked due to floated towards Rajapur. Also, settlements including Sri Lanka(village of nepal) and Toligaun below the bridge are at risk.
