KATHMANDU: JUNE 25 – The Ministry of Health and Population has decided to give priority to vaccinating people in flood-affected areas against the Corona Virus. Newly appointed Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha has taken the decision while assuming office.

He said that prevention and control work will be done across the country by bringing vaccine against COVID-19 soon. “We don’t show much about the vaccine against COVID-19 anymore, we show it by working,” he said.

He also said that discussions are underway with various countries to bring the vaccine. Minister Shrestha, who is also the Minister of Education, Science and Technology, said that the Corona Virus can be controlled only through coordination at the federal, state and local levels.

He informed that the government has already started preparations for the third wave of COVID-19. He said that the survival of the people was the first priority and added that other areas could be mobilized if COVID-19 could be controlled.

Similarly, he has decided in principle to approve Rs. 330 million provided by the Banking Association to build physical infrastructure in the health sector to save children from the third wave.

He also signed a decision to add 600 intensive care units (ICUs), 100 ventilators, 1,400 high-density units (HDUs) and 250 more beds for children to prevent and control Kovid-19.

During his tenure, Secretary at the Ministry Laxman Aryal said that the infection would be brought under control by vaccinating 33 percent by mid-October. He informed that the process of purchasing 11 million vaccines has been started. He said that due to the important role of health workers in controlling the first and second wave of COVID-19, it has done a better job than other countries.

Chief experts of the ministry Mahendra Prasad Shrestha and Dr Roshan Pokharel, among others, were of the view that the infection could be reduced only by providing vaccines to the target population.
