Transporting problems in flood-affected areas of Sindhupalchowk
SINDHUPALCHOWK: JUNE 25 – The flood-affected areas of Melamchi, Helambu and Panch Pokhari in Sindhupalchowk have been closed. Circulation has been closed in four wards of Melamchi, Helambu and Panch Pokhari. The floods have washed away bridges in many places and flooded settlements and farms along the river.
According to the locals, there was a problem in transporting the patient to the hospital when the air circulation was closed. There is a danger of the remaining bridges collapsing due to the floods. The flood-ravaged locals are now living in schools and army barracks.
Due to the floods in Indrawati and Melamchi rivers on June 15, settlements and farms along the rivers in places including Talamarang, Gyalthum, Shera, Chanaute, Kiul, Timbu, Ambathan and Melamchi Bazar in Helambu have been turned into bogs.
More than 500 people have been displaced in Helambu and 127 houses have been completely damaged. The three-storey Area Police Office building in Helambu, which was inaugurated only five months ago, has collapsed and the East Point Academy building has also been washed away.
The floods have displaced 600 houses in Melamchi Municipality, destroying many development infrastructures and causing billions in damage, the municipality said. The floods have destroyed five concrete bridges and swept away 10 suspension bridges. Municipalities have said that billions of rupees will be spent on such bridges that need to be constructed immediately.
