KATHMANDU: JUNE 23 – Saraswati Pradhan, who was arrested on the charge of not giving her room as a Dalit, has been released on a normal date.
She was released on Wednesday from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Singha Durbar. She was released after the district government prosecutor’s office said there was insufficient evidence in the case. According to sources, the police will investigate and gather more evidence.
Police had arrested Pradhan on the charge of not giving room to journalist Rupa Sunar on the basis of caste. Pradhan was taken away by Education Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha.
Earlier, Saraswati’s family and relatives, including Newar community organizations, staged a protest at the District Public Prosecutor’s Office, Babar Mahal, demanding Pradhan’s unconditional release.
