Demonstration demanding release of Saraswati Pradhan [Photos]

KATHMANDU: JUNE 23 – Demonstration has taken place in Kathmandu demanding the unconditional release of Saraswati Pradhan, who was arrested on the charge of not renting a room due to caste discrimination.

ALSO THIS: Pradhan, who was arrested on the charge of not giving room to Dalits, was released on a normal date

Saraswati’s family and relatives, including Newar community organizations, staged a protest outside the District Public Prosecutor’s Office, Babar Mahal, demanding Pradhan’s unconditional release. They said that it was her right to rent out her house or not, adding that the issue should not be filed on the basis of ethnicity.

Journalist Rupa Sunar went to look for a room in Pradhan’s house and after finding out everything including rent, Saraswati found out that she belonged to the Dalit community and than she did not give a room for rent.
