The Marshyangdi River is blocked again
MANANG: JUNE 23 – The Marshyangdi River is blocked again in Chame. Chief District Officer Bishnu Lamichhane informed that the big bridge leading to Chame Bazar was in danger when the Marshyangdi River connecting Ward No. 4 and 5 of Chame Village Municipality was blocked. According to Lamichhane, the river was blocked when trees and stones got stuck on the bridge.
Water is flowing above the bridge as the flow of water in the blocked river has increased. A school near the bridge is also at risk after the river was blocked. The flow of water in the river has increased after continuous rain since Tuesday evening.
The river was blocked last Saturday after the Ghattekhola that flowed through the market area of Chame washed away stones and firewood. The river was reopened with the help of Armed Police Force No. 32 Gulm and Nepal Police. According to Lamichhane, the flow of the river is increasing and this has put Chame Bazar at greater risk.
He said that efforts are being made to open it in coordination with all security agencies. The risk is high as the flow of water has increased due to continuous rains, said Lamichhane. That is why the locals of Chame area have been asked to remain vigilant, he said.
