KATHMANDU: JUNE 20 – The match finally started on the second day of the final of the ongoing Test Championship between India and New Zealand. However, only 64.4 overs were possible due to poor lighting.

Batting first after losing the toss, India lost 3 wickets and scored 146 runs on the first day. Rohit Sharma (34), Shubman Gill (28) and Cheteshwar Pujara (8) were all out. The Indian team came on the field wearing a black bandage paying tribute to their country’s runner Milkha Singh.

When India start the game on Sunday, captain Virat Kohli will be unbeaten on 44 and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane on 29. India will need a sensible innings from Kohli and Rahane if they are not affected by rain on the third day.

The final in Southampton was scheduled to start on June 18 but could not be tossed due to rain on the first day. Though it was decided to play 98 overs on Saturday, the game had to be stopped 34 overs earlier due to bad lighting. Cheteshwar Pujara was dismissed for the fifth time by fast bowler Trent Bolt. Bolt became the player to dismiss Pujara the most number of times. Similarly, Rohit Sharma scored the highest score in England. He played 68 balls and scored 34 runs. Earlier, Rohit had scored only 28 runs in 2014.

Indian captain Virat Kohli has become the player to captain the most Tests after entering the field as captain with New Zealand. He broke Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s record. Dhoni captained 60 Tests. This is Kohli’s 61st Test captaincy.
