DHANGADHI: JUNE 19 – The flow of water in the Mahakali River has reached above the danger level. The river has crossed the danger level due to continuous rains in the far west. The surrounding settlements are at risk due to the rising water level in the river flowing through Kanchanpur through Darchula in the border area with India.
Water has crossed the danger level at the water metering center at Dattu in Darchula. The District Administration Office, Darchula, had issued a notice at 10 pm on Friday.
According to the administration, the flow of water, which had decreased a little on Saturday morning, increased again in the afternoon. Chief District Officer Siddharaj Joshi informed that the citizens of the riverside areas in Kanchanpur have been urged to remain vigilant. Similarly, the police has urged to be vigilant while miking in all areas.
Residents of Mahakali Municipality, Malikarjun Municipality and Lekam Municipality of Darchula have been asked to be vigilant. The settlement around the river in Kanchanpur is at risk due to rising river level in Darchula hill on Friday night.
The rising water level in the Mahakali River has also damaged the surrounding streams and the structure of the four-lane concrete bridge under construction. Spokesperson of the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, Amar Bahadur Thapa informed that 10/12 houses in Bhimdatta Municipality-12 have been blocked due to the rising water level in the river.
According to him, the flow of water in the Mahakali River is increasing in the afternoon as compared to the morning. He said that the police team was on standby in the flood prone areas.
