KATHMANDU: MAY 27 – A single sitting of Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher JB Rana will hear 19 writ petitions seeking an interim order to appoint Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Sher Bahadur Deuba as prime minister and annul the mid-term elections. Rana has appointed his own single bench to hear all the writ petitions.

Hearing on 19 writs will start from today. Some of the 19 writ petitions also demanded that KP Sharma Oli be given continuity as the Prime Minister and that elections be held on time.

The coalition with the opposition parties has also filed a petition demanding the restoration of the parliament with the signatures of 146 lawmakers and the appointment of Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba as the prime minister. These and other writ petitions will be heard only on Friday. In those writs, a constitutional session has been demanded.

The president had dissolved the House of Representatives on the same day on the recommendation of the government, saying that 149 lawmakers had supported Deuba as the prime minister last Friday.

After that, MPs from five opposition parties, including the Congress, went to the apex against the dissolution of the House of Representatives. About 30 writ petitions have been filed against the president’s recommendation to dissolve parliament and call for mid-term elections.
