One of the five former chief election commissioners – don’t bring a budget that affects the voters

KATHMANDU: MAY 27 – Five former chief election commissioners have called on the government not to bring in budgets to influence voters. Issuing a joint request today, the caretaker government said that policies, programs and budget should not be brought in such a way as to affect the voters.

“We urge the government not to allocate any new policies, programs or budgets in a way that will influence the voters to take sides in the principle of equal competition for clean, free and fair elections when the government brings in the budget for the coming fiscal year to carry out the current work,” the joint request said.

Former Chief Election Commissioners Surya Prasad Shrestha, Bhojraj Pokhrel, Nilkantha Upreti, Dr Ayodhi Prasad Yadav and acting former Chief Election Commissioner Dolakh Bahadur Gurung have issued the appeal. On the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, President Bidya Devi Bhandari has dissolved the House of Representatives and announced the date of mid-term elections in Kartik and Mangshir 2078 BS.
