Eleven lakh Cubans received home-made vaccines


HAVANA: FRIDAY, MAY 21, 2021 – The Caribbean nation of Cuba has vaccinated more than 11 lakh Cubans against COVID-19. The vaccine was made on their own country. A senior Cuban official said on Thursday that more than 11 lakh people had been vaccinated with at least one dose.
Elena Morales, director of science and technology at the Ministry of Health, said that although vaccines were part of the fight against COVID-19, much remained to be done.
A total of 1,252 people were confirmed infected with Corona Virus in Cuba on Thursday and six died. In Cuba, 129,000 people have been infected with COVID-19 so far, of which 840 have died.
Cuba is currently studying five types of vaccines against Covid-19 – Soberana 1, Soberana 2, Abdala, Mambisa and Soberana Plus. Meanwhile, thousands of people who have been vaccinated in Cuba have started posting their views about the vaccine on social media.
Joila Rodriguez, a resident of the capital, Havana, believes the vaccine will reduce daily infections and hospital admissions. The Cuban government plans to vaccinate all Cubans by the end of this year. Cuba has a population of about 1 crore 10 lakh. -XINHUA
