The first death due to a new type of Covid


DHAKA: THURSDAY, MAY 20, 2021 – Bangladesh said on Monday that the first person infected with the new Indian variant of Covid-19 had died.
According to figures released by the government’s Infectious Diseases Control and Research Office on Tuesday, the infected people had recently returned home from India. A new strain of the virus has been confirmed in six people in Bangladesh so far, including one who died of cancer and other diseases.
Two cases of highly contagious Corona Virus were detected earlier this month after Bangladesh blocked entry of passengers returning from India through the port on April 26. Passenger flights between the two countries were also suspended from April 14 due to the high incidence of Covid-19 infection in India.
The death toll from the Corona Virus epidemic in Bangladesh on Monday was 32, while the number of people confirmed to be infected with Covid-19 was 698. At the same time, the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Bangladesh has reached 780,859 and 12,181 people have died so far. -XINHUA
