KATHMANDU: TUESDAY, MAY 18, 2021 – The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) State Committee is going to establish a Karnali State Journalists Welfare Fund of Rs. 10 million. A meeting of the federation held on Monday decided to set up the fund for emergency rescue, treatment and relief of journalists in Karnali.

Khagendra Bhattarai, general secretary of the federation’s state committee, said the meeting focused on the impact of the Corona Virus on journalists and the media in Karnali and how to move forward in the coming days. According to him, an appeal will be made to the media entrepreneurs, private sector and the government at all three levels for assistance in setting up the fund. The meeting expressed concern over the increasing number of Corona infections in journalists from different districts of Karnali and demanded the state and federal governments to make proper arrangements for the health and safety of journalists who have been declared ‘frontliners’ in the fight against Corona.

Similarly, it has been decided to appoint Treasurer Ganesh Kanchan Bharti as the liaison person to facilitate the emergency rescue and treatment of journalists suffering from Corona infection or any other serious condition. -RSS
