Five lakh doses of vaccine donated by China to Bangladesh
DHAKA: WEDNESDAY, MAY 12, 2021 – A vaccine against 500,000 doses of Covid-19 provided by China has arrived in Dhaka. The vaccine was brought to the capital Dhaka on Wednesday morning by a special aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF).
The vaccine, developed by China’s largest pharmaceutical company Sinopharm, has been made available to Bangladesh. The vaccine was approved for emergency use by Bangladesh’s drug regulator a few days ago.
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 on January 28. Earlier, India had provided 2 million doses of Covishield vaccine to Bangladesh. Bangladesh has also agreed to purchase 30 million doses of vaccine from India’s Serum Institute.
Bangladesh has already received 5 million doses of the vaccine it has agreed to buy and will provide another 500,000 doses every month, according to Serum. – XINHUA
