UN Security Council condemns attack on Congolese peacekeepers
CONGO: TUESDAY, MAY 11, 2021 – The United Nations Security Council has strongly condemned the attack on UN peacekeepers stationed in the Democratic Republic of Congo. A Malawi soldier has been killed in a rebel attack.
The United Nations said in a statement that attacks on peacekeepers by member states of the council would be considered a war crime under international law. The Congolese government has also been asked to investigate the attack and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The statement also called on the Congolese government to fulfill its mandate and ensure the safety of UN peacekeepers.
The Security Council requested that in addition to the International Atomic Energy Agency’s ongoing inspections in Iran, that it monitor Iran’s compliance with “the steps required by the IAEA Board”. – XINHUA
