China’s population will exceed 1.4 billion in a few years: Statistics
BEIJING: TUESDAY, MAY 11, 2021 – China’s National Bureau of Statistics estimates that China’s population could exceed 1.4 billion in the next few years.
Bureau chief Ning Jizhe said the population’s highest point had not yet been reached, but that it was difficult to predict when that peak would arrive.
Based on recent demographic trends, China’s population growth is expected to continue to decline, he said. He pointed out that the age structure, people’s perceptions about having children, government’s population policy, expenditure on child care, health care and people’s health condition also have an impact on population growth.
China’s population has reached 1.41 billion. China’s population has grown at an average annual rate of 0.53 percent over the past decade, according to data released by the Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday.
According to the bureau, the population grew at an annual rate of 0.57 percent from 2000 to 2010, but declined slightly in the last decade to 0.53 percent.
According to Ning, China’s population growth has been steadily declining over the past decade. – XINHUA
