The government brought a law through an ordinance to run trains
KATHMANDU: MONDAY, MAY 10, 2021 – The government has made necessary legal arrangements for the operation of railway services in Nepal. The government has brought such a law through an ordinance in the absence of the parliament. President Bidya Devi Bhandari has approved the Railway Ordinance 2078 taken by the government to the President.
The only railway service in Nepal, Kurtha-Janakpur-Jayanagar, could not run even though the railway line and train were ready. The train could not run due to lack of skilled, technical staff and law required to run the train. However, the government had given the responsibility of running the train to the company Konkan Company of India, which was brought by purchasing the train. However, there was a lack of law.
The winter session of making government laws was concluded by the President on the recommendation of the government without passing any law. Some have termed the introduction of the Railway Operation Law Ordinance, which has been felt necessary since then, as a stepping stone adopted by the government.
A recent ordinance issued by the President stipulates that train drivers must have passed at least secondary (class 12) in science or at least a diploma in mechanical or automobile.
Provision has also been made for a person who has obtained a driver’s certificate, has completed 25 years of age and has not reached 50 years of age and has worked as a railway co-driver for at least 3 years.
