Establishment of ‘Oxygen Bank’ in Pokhara

POKHARA: MONDAY, MAY 10, 2021 – An ‘Oxygen Bank’ has been set up in Pokhara as Corona infections are on the rise and hospitals are running out of essential oxygen. Seven different Rotary clubs operating here have set up Oxygen Bank (Jeevan Asha) in collaboration with Gandaki Auto Mechanical Workshop Association.
Program Coordinator Minu Kunwar Shrestha said that the bank has been set up to collect gas cylinders and deliver them to the required areas immediately on the condition of returning them so that no one would be deprived of treatment due to lack of oxygen.
As there are around 2,000 oxygen cylinders in the auto mechanical workshops, it is said that an oxygen bank has been set up to fill the cylinders in the oxygen gas industry and make them available in the hospitals as per the need.
Speaking on the occasion, Publicity Coordinator Arjun Khanal urged the people not to store unnecessary oxygen gas cylinders in case of emergency and to support their campaign by providing oxygen cylinders.
He said: “We are struggling to cope with the lack of oxygen to prevent serious Corona disease. If someone has an oxygen gas cylinder, we have appealed to join the campaign to make someone’s life available. ”
The Rotary Club of Pokhara, Rotary Club of Lakeside, Rotary Club of New Road, Rotary Club of Annapurna, Rotary Club of Fistel, Rotary Club of Meat Town and Rotary Club of Pokhara Lekhnath have started the campaign for the establishment of Oxygen Bank.
The demand for oxygen has been increasing in the hospitals of Pokhara, which is also the capital city of Gandaki. The local administration, police and people’s representatives are searching for the cylinders as there is a shortage of cylinders even though there is an oxygen plant. – RSS
