KATHMANDU: SUNDAY, MAY 9, 2021 – The wreckage of China’s Long March 5B rocket fell into the Indian Ocean on Sunday, according to the Chinese Space Engineering Office. Launched last April, the rocket was aimed at helping build China’s first station in space.

According to the office, the Chang Zheng 5B rocket re-entered Earth’s atmosphere at 10:29 a.m. on May 9, and landed in the Indian Ocean near the Maldives. Most of the rocket had been destroyed by fire as it entered the Earth’s atmosphere, the office said in a statement.

Last Wednesday, the US Department of Defense said it was tracking an uncontrolled Chinese rocket. The ministry said the remnants of the rocket would fall to earth this week. On Friday, China claimed that the unmanned rocket would have no effect on Earth, despite the interest of experts. – ANI
