Risk of infection by inmates overcrowding

BAITADI: SATURDAY, MAY 8, 2021 – As the second wave of Corona infection with the new variant spreads, there is a problem of overcrowding in the district jail Baitadi. There are currently 71 inmates in the 25-capacity district jail.

Anil Tiwari of the jail informed that the risk of Corona infection has increased due to overcrowding. As the number of inmates increases, so does the Corona transition, and there are challenges in terms of settlement and security. He said, “The inmates have been kept in Tripal due to lack of accommodation. ”

There are currently 38 inmates and 33 detainees in the jail. As there is no place to stay inside, arrangements have been made for the accommodation of the inmates by placing Tripal in the courtyard of the jail. “The risk of infection is increasing but so far no one has been infected,” he said. Meetings with inmates and detainees have been suspended due to the risk of infection. The jail building constructed in 2040 BS is getting dilapidated due to lack of reconstruction. – RSS
