Youth activism in development work
KATHMANDU: FRIDAY, MAY 7, 2021 – All the people of Beni Municipality of Myagdi have been confined to their homes due to the lockdown after the second wave of Covid-19 spread to the community level.
The youths of Beni Municipality-2 Bagarphant of Myagdi, who have become lazy due to the ban, are engaged in development work by adopting security precautions. Eight youths of the village have joined hands to repair the Khahare Khola-Kurundi-Jalkeni road with a contract worth Rs. 500,000 allocated by the Beni Municipality.
According to Chandra Bahadur Kuwar, a member of Beni Municipality-2, local youths including Ram Bahadur Pokhrel, Bikash Kunwar and Krishna Pokhrel are working to fill the gabion net in Khahare Khola. According to Kunwar, a member of the ward, the Khahare Khola-Kurundi-Jalkeni road, which was constructed at a cost of Rs. 500,000 in Beni Municipality in the fiscal year 2076-77 BS, was damaged by the floods last year. He said that the responsibility of road maintenance has been given to the local youths as the youths will get employment and development work instead of staying at home without work during the ban.
Ram Bahadur Pokhrel, chairman of the Khahare Khola-Kurundi-Jalkeni Road Maintenance Consumer Committee, said that the youths of the village have been hired as the risk of Corona infection would increase and local youths would have to remain unemployed. According to Chairman Pokhrel, 22 gabion nets including 22 in Khahare Khola section and 18 in other parts of the road will be filled and about 1 km of road from Khahare Khola to Jalkeni Banno will be repaired and cleaned by means of excavators. – RSS
