New Road Gate repairs begin
KATHMANDU: THURSDAY, MAY 6, 2021 – The maintenance of New Road Gate in the center of Kathmandu, which was built during the Rana period, has been started.
The Kathmandu Municipal Corporation has started maintenance of New Road Gate under the ‘Sundar Kathmandu Campaign’.
An agreement of Rs. 39.90 million was signed with RDR Construction Services for the maintenance of New Road Gate. The gate repair work will be completed by mid-Kartik, according to the metropolis.
The roof of the New Road Gate and the wooden roof collapsed after the quake. The gate was being renovated from time to time. After the quake, maintenance of other structures was carried out, but work on the New Road Gate did not begin.
The metropolis has designed the new road gate to be demolished to make it new and the old gate to be repaired without being demolished. There are 12 idols of gods and goddesses in the gate. The metropolis has stated that the statues will be repaired without changing their appearance.
Built during the Rana period, the gate was made of bricks, tiles and wooden beams.
