Jeep crash update: Death toll rises to six

BAITADI: WEDNESDAY, MAY 5, 2021 – The death toll in a jeep accident at Pancheshwar in Baitadi district on Tuesday has risen to six. Khemsingh Bhandari, 50, of Pancheshwar Rural Municipality-6 has died and the death toll has risen to six, said Narayan Prasad Adhikari, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Baitadi.

Bhandari died at the district hospital on Tuesday evening, police said. Earlier, 50-year-old Jit Singh Bhandari, 30-year-old Dammar Singh Bhandari, 27-year-old Himmat Bhandari and 40-year-old Deepak Bhandari of Pancheshwar-6 died on the spot while jeep driver Tej Bahadur Bohara died on the way to the hospital. The body has been kept in the mortuary of the district hospital.

A jeep (Se 1 Ja 183) carrying the body of ward member of Pancheshwar-6 Govind Singh Bhandari to the district hospital met with an accident near Ganameshwar temple at Pancheshwar-6 on Tuesday afternoon. A jeep carrying ward member Bhandari to the district hospital for autopsy met with an accident on Monday night. There were 11 people in the jeep including the body of the deceased ward member.

Four others have been injured in the accident. The condition of three of the injured is critical. Harisingh Bhandari, 30, Madan Singh Bhandari, 28, and Dilip Singh Bhandari, 24, have been referred to Navajeevan Hospital in Dhangadhi for treatment. The injured Mohan Singh Bhandari is undergoing treatment at the District Hospital, Baitadi.

According to the District Police Office, Baitadi, the jeep met with an accident while reversing. The jeep fell about 500 meters from the road. The village of Rodi Dewal, which was in mourning over the death of a ward member, has drowned in grief after six more people died in an accident. – RSS
