Lumbini Chief Minister Pokharel resigned
KATHMANDU: SUNDAY, MAY 2, 2021 – Lumbini Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel has resigned from the post. He handed over his resignation to state chief Dharmanath Yadav in the morning. The state chief will decide whether to accept his resignation or not. With the resignation of the Chief Minister, the balance of power in Lumbini will also change.
A special session of the state assembly has been held at 1 pm today. The Nepali Congress, the CPN-Maoist Center and the Janata Samajwadi Party had filed a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Pokharel at the Provincial Assembly Secretariat on 6th of Baisakh. Chief Minister Pokharel had signed the no-confidence motion and appointed four Ja Sa Pa MPs as ministers that evening. But Ja Sa Pa has taken action against them.
The UML now has 81 members after two lawmakers from the UCPN (Maoist) and four from the Ja Sa Pa were arrested. The chief minister needed 41 MPs to win the no-confidence vote, but there was a floor-to-floor scare within the UML.
