JHAPA: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 28, 2021 – Unnecessary arrival of Indian nationals has been stopped in Kakarbhitta of eastern border after criticism from all quarters over the opening of the border checkpoint. Rakesh Thapa, Deputy Superintendent of Police, District Police Office, Jhapa, said that unnecessary entry of Indian nationals has been stopped in Kakarbhitta from Tuesday.

Lately, more than 700 people have entered Nepal through eastern border daily and around one thousand people have gone to India from Nepal. He said that 623 Nepalis have returned home from India on Tuesday and 26 Indian nationals with PCR report have also come to Nepal for urgent work. “Apart from urgent work, we have stopped Indian nationals who want to come to Nepal at the checkpoint,” Thapa said, “As the Corona virus infection rate in India has increased, we have been forced to take such a step in Nepal’s interest.”

Nepalis who have gone to India for employment, special work and study are returning to Nepal. At the border, they have been allowed to enter Nepal after looking at the PCR report. A large number of workers living and working in Nepal are currently returning to India. They have been allowed to go to India on the basis of their identity cards.

Hundreds of Indian nationals come to Nepal daily for eye treatment and paid work in border towns. In the absence of management of the holding center at the border and inadequate inspection, there was a fear that the arrival of Indian nationals would spread the infection of Covid-19, but now the ban has been reduced. -RSS
