Fashion designer Alber Elbaz dies from covid

PARIS: MONDAY, APRIL 26, 2021 – French fashion designer Alber Elbaz died on Saturday at the age of 59 from a Corona virus infection.

Jonathan Rupert, chairman of Richemont Luxury Group, said the news of Alber’s death had saddened the entire French fashion industry. Alber died at the American Hospital in Paris after a three-weeks struggle with Covid.

Elbaz, a Moroccan-born Israeli citizen, worked with an American fashion designer in New York in the early days. He then joined Guy Laroche in 1996 and Yves Saint Laurent in 1998.

In a statement, French President Emmanuel Macron said Alber had made an invaluable contribution to the spread of French fashion design around the world. -RSS / AFP
