NEA to supply 30 MW electricity to Hongshi Cement

KATHMANDU: FRIDAY, APRIL 23, 2021 – Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is to provide 30 MW electricity to Hongshi Cement’s production plant. For this, NEA’s executive director level meeting has given approval to give 30 MW load to the industry.

The industry, which has been operating in Susta West of Nawalparasi for the past two years, is currently producing cement. The industry had been demanding 50 MW of electricity to operate at full capacity. Out of this, 12 MW power industry has been producing cement by itself.

Electricity will be taken to the company’s plant through Bardaghat-Sardi 132 KV transmission line in Nawalparasi. However, electricity has not been provided so far as the work of the 20-kilometer transmission line has not been completed.

The industry is 60 percent owned by Chinese investors, 30 percent by Nepali investment partners and 10 percent by ordinary Nepalis. The target is to produce 6,000 metric tons of cement daily.

Seven Nepali banks have jointly invested Rs 16 arab in co-financing in the industry. The Chinese company has invested more than Rs 40 arab in the project with the approval of the Board of Investment.
