Open stage bus park to be removed from Baisakh 15, buses to run on ‘pick and drop’ system
KATHMANDU: FRIDAY, APRIL 23, 2021 – The Kathmandu Metropolitan City is going to remove the city bus park operating in the open platform from Baisakh 15. The metropolis is going to make such an arrangement to remove the bus park and bring the open platform back to its previous purpose.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Rajeshwar Gyawali, chief administrative officer of the corporation, and officials of the traffic management department and traffic police division on Thursday.
Gongbu Bus Park will be used as an alternative to the existing bus park. The medium-distance buses will use Gongbu bus park and the short-distance buses will pick up and drop off passengers at Tundikhel, Ratna Park and other major areas. After the decision of the corporation, no bus will be allowed to park in Ratna Park area.
Driving in the pick-and-drop system will also be done on the basis of soliciting applications from vehicle service providers and on the basis of applications approved by the Metropolitan and Traffic Police in coordination.
Earlier, the Kathmandu View Tower would be constructed in the old bus park on the east side of Ratna Park, but the bus park was shifted to the open stage. However, the bus park, which looks ugly on the open stage, has disrupted traffic in the city’s price area, prompting the adoption of a ‘pick-and-drop’ system for public transport.
