Dogs problem in the village: wild behavior of domestic dogs

Incident 1
Ram Chandra Sahani’s goat of Rangeli Municipality-7 was attacked by a group of dogs and left injured. The mother goat, which was grazing in the field, was surrounded by a group of dogs that ate it alive and took out its stomach. Sahani treated the injured goat but could not save it. Sahani says that he could not save himself as the dog ate him and took out his stomach.
Incident 2
One of the four goats one was bitten by a dog while it was grazing in the field of Rangeli’s Baniya Rishidev. Goat, was in critical condition due to dog bites, died while undergoing treatment. He said that there was a problem in protecting goats, kids, cows and buffaloes from dogs.
Incident 3
Sunsari Municipality-4 where 4 goats have been killed by dogs in a week in Kasijan. According to local Jeevan Kumar Das, 12 kg, 23 kg, 20 kg and 25 kg goats were killed by dogs. Some have been killed by dogs in their cowshed, while others have been killed by grazing in fields.
Terrified locals
Locals in Rangeli and Sunsari municipalities of Morang have become panic stricken after dogs started eating pets. In Rangeli Municipality-7 and Sunsari Municipality-4, dogs have been attacking and killing domestic animals. Sahani said that he has been struggling to save the goats reared in his house for the past few months.
According to the locals, the dogs may have been attacked due to lack of food in the village. Surendra Mandal of Rangeli said that the dogs used to bite goats and small calves. “When a goat is bitten by a dogs, when it is not able to eat, even dogs attack to the people,” said Mandal.
Innocent municipality
Despite the growing dog terror in the village, the locals have no plans to control it. Not only in Rangeli and Sunsari municipalities but also in 17 local levels of Morang, no concrete plan has been formulated for the protection and control of animals.
Rangeli Municipality Livestock Branch Chief Deepak Khatiwada said that Ward No. 3 of Rangeli was also affected by the dog terror. “We don’t have the problem of dogs only. The problem has been solved after the Ratuwamai and Pathari municipalities neutered the dogs,” he said. Khatiwada informed that the municipality has not yet made any plan for dog control. He clarified that a dog control strategy will be formulated by making a budget in the coming fiscal year.
