Speaker Sapkota’s case is before the Supreme Court, it is uncertain whether it will be heard or not
KATHMANDU: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 21, 2021 – The murder case filed against Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota has reached the Supreme Court. The case, which was filed alleging involvement in the killings during the conflict, was taken up in the Constitutional Court of the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
It has not been decided whether the hearing will be held on Wednesday or not. Judges Deepak Kumar Karki, Mira Khadka, Harikrishna Karki and Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada are in the bench along with Chief Justice Cholendra Shamser JB Rana.
In 2068 BS, Lama’s wife Purnima and human rights activist Sushil Pyakurel had filed a case against Sapkota alleging that he was the main culprit in the murder of Arjun Lama of Kavre. Lama was abducted and killed during the Maoist insurgency.
Similarly, journalist Kanak Mani Dixit and advocate Dinesh Tripathi have also filed separate cases against Sapkota. A bench of then-judges Sushila Karki and Omprakash Mishra ordered the case to go to the Constitutional Court, but the hearing has not yet begun.
Sapkota, on the other hand, said that the cases filed against him should be decided by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
