Coca-Cola and the Nepal Army join hands in a mountaineering campaign

KATHMANDU: MONDAY, APRIL 19, 2021 – Coca-Cola and the Himalayan Climate Initiative (HCI) have joined hands with the Nepal Army for the 2021 Himalayan Cleanup Campaign. This is the second edition of the National Cleanup Program launched to keep the Himalayan region clean.

The program aims to save the mountains, mitigate the effects of climate change and clean up the six mountains of Everest, Lotse, Makalu, Dhaulagiri, Pumori and Amadablum.

Deepak Bhandari, communications manager of Himal Safai Abhiyan 2078, said that the Coca-Cola system supports the efforts of the Nepal Army and the efforts to clean the glorious mountains. ‘Our goal is to pick up as much garbage as possible from the peak. We are working with the community and partners to raise awareness to keep the mountains clean, ”he said.

In 2076, under the leadership of the Nepal Army, Coca-Cola and many stakeholders launched the first ever Everest Cleanup Campaign. Through this campaign, 4892 kg of garbage was collected from Sagarmatha and 5694 kg from Sagarmatha base camp.

Managing Director of Bottlers Nepal Limited, Pradip Pandey, lauded the efforts of the Nepal Army to unite like-minded partners for this urgent task of clearing the peaks of the Himalayan region. Stating that we have been disenfranchised for participating in the exemplary joint effort, he also wished the team leading the clean-up operation the best of luck in maintaining Nepal’s pride.

The program has established a platform for various government, non-profit organizations and private sector companies to work for the protection of the environment and to share a common interest in the protection of Nepal’s natural pride and beauty.

Adarsh ​​Awasthi, country director of the Coca-Cola Company of Nepal, said that every bottle sold by the company should be recycled by 2030 as per the Global World Without Waste target. “We are committed to playing our part in a broader address. We hope to keep Nepal clean through the plastic waste challenge and mountain cleaning campaign, ”he said.
