The Indian company will be responsible for operating Nepal’s railways within Baisakh
KATHMANDU: SUNDAY, APRIL 18, 2021 – Nepal’s railways will be operational within Baisakh. The only railway service in the country, Kurtha-Janakpur-Jayanagar train, will be operational within Baisakh. The two railway sets that have been covered by Tripal at Inaruwa in Sunsari for the past eight months will now come into operation on the railway line.
The operation of the train service has been ensured after the Nepal Railway Company handed over the operation of the train to the Indian company Konkan Railway Corporation, which had purchased the train.
According to the Nepal Railway Company, the responsibility of operating the train has been given to the Indian company at an annual cost of Rs 352 million, or Rs 220 million. The package agreement is to be borne by the Indian company for the equipment, signaling system, one year maintenance and other expenses. The company will also bring 26 skilled technical manpower required to run the train.
Nepal’s railway company, which runs the train, has already managed 100 employees.
There is a readiness to train the employees managed in Nepal and to operate the train with the price technicians coming from India.
After the agreement, a team including Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management Basant Kumar Nemwang inspected the infrastructure and operational readiness of the railway on Friday and Saturday.
After studying the railways and preparations, he said that the railway service could be brought into operation from Baisakh.
A team of 150 armed police led by DSP has been deployed for the security of the railway.
With the financial and technical support of the Government of India, the old narrow gauge railway has been replaced by a 35 km broad gauge railway.
