Myanmar coup: ‘Dozens killed’ in military crackdown in Bago
KATHMANDU: SUNDAY, APRIL 11, 2021 – Authorities say more than 80 protesters have been killed in Myanmar’s capital, Bago. On Friday, the army opened fire on the protesters.
The exact number of dead could not be ascertained as the army took away the body of the deceased. As the violence escalated, large numbers of people moved out of the city.
According to eyewitnesses, the army used heavy weapons, firing indiscriminately during the demonstration. The agitation continues with the demand for the restoration of a popularly elected government in Myanmar since the military coup in February. More than 600 people have been killed during the protests.
The death toll could be higher, according to the observer body Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). Myanmar Now News has commented that this barbarism of the army is like ethnic genocide. He said that the soldiers fired at every place where shadows were visible.
