7,000 quintals of rice approved for Humla
HUMLA: SUNDAY, APRIL 11, 2021 – The government has approved a quota of 7,000 quintals of rice for Humla through Food Management and Trade Company Limited. The quota was approved as per the demand of the District Food Management Committee, Humla, said Bharat Adhikari, Deputy Subba of Limited Humla Branch.
According to him, the quota of rice for the fiscal year 2077/07 has been approved after the Humla branch of the company requested the sales and distribution department, head office of the company in Kathmandu on 26th of Falgun. “Even though the company has demanded 14,000 quintals of rice for the Simkot center, only 7,000 quintals has been approved as per the Centre’s circular on 26th of Chaith,” the official said.
The approved quota of rice will be transported from Surkhet, the capital of Karnali. The approved food items will be transported by private airline Sita Air as per the demand of the district. Sita Air has been informed for the transportation of rice and will be transporting rice regularly for the next few days, said Sita Air’s Simkot station assistant in-charge Surya Lama.
In Humla, local produce is not enough to eat all the year round, so there is always a shortage of rice. It is said that the rice quota approved by the government at this time will not be a problem in the distribution of rice as the wheat crop ripening in Jestha will not yield as expected due to the severe drought. -RSS
