Another outbreak of disease in Nigeria amid the second wave of corona, killing 50 people
ABUJA: THURSDAY, APRIL 8, 2021 – On the one hand, the second wave of the Corona epidemic is wreaking havoc, and on the other hand, a unique disease outbreak has spread in Nigeria.
IANS quoted Xinhua as saying in a report that a new outbreak of suspected cholera had struck Nigeria this year, killing at least 50 people. According to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), about eight states in the country have been affected by the disease.
NCDC chief Chikwe Ihekweazu told reporters that 50 people had died by March 28. According to him, out of 1,746 cases, 2.9 percent patients have died. The NCDC is closely monitoring the situation.
The disease has been reported in the Nigerian states of Nasarawa, Sokoto, Kogi, Belsa, Gombe, Zamfara, Delta and Benue. Outbreaks appear to be exacerbated in Nigeria, where infections have not stopped.
According to reports, the disease usually occurs in the rainy season in Nigeria. The disease is more prevalent in areas with more garbage, overcrowding, healthy and clean food and water shortages. It spreads to open defecation areas.
